Adrian Kollnberger Is a serving Police Dog Handler with Kent Police and has been over ten years.
Another of his roles within the section has been to develop 'gift dogs' donated by the public which are waiting to be allocated to handlers. Adrian takes them home and enviromentalises them to Police work and commences basic training with them. These gift dogs generally are taken to the Police with some form of behavioral problem ranging from aggression to poor social skills or simply just no obedience training. All of these problems have to be addressed by Adrian and start to be modified before the dogs can be allocated to a new handler.
Adrian presently handles a German Shepherd general purpose Police Dog and a Labrador as a drug detection dog. He has recently taken on a new German Shepherd Puppy to take over from his current dog when he retires. He is now also training to become a Police Dog Instructor with a view to carrying out this role in the latter part of his career.
In addition to his Police dog work. Adrian also runs his own behavioural business in Kent. Since starting, he has come into contact with many different types and breeds of dogs with a wide range of behavioral and training problems. Along with a Police Colleague, Adrian runs an obedience school teaching a range of classes from puppy socialisation up to dogs with problems that have been “expelled” from conventional dog schools. Adrian is thoroughly enjoying his training and behavioural business and says "I have found that the civilian side of dog training has given me a whole new outlook on dog training outside of the Police environment."
